PEORIA, IL- December, 14, 2015- Arts Partners of Central Illinois Inc. is partnering with The Illinois Small Business Development Center at Bradley University to present The Business of Art. The Business of Art is a one day event designed to connect entrepreneurial artists with business professionals who can help them navigate the world of business. Through seminars and networking, The Business of Art will assist artists of all disciplines with establishing or enhancing their businesses.
 

The Business of Art will take place on Monday, February 8th at the Peoria Civic Center from 9:30am- 4:00pm. The event will kick off with a keynote address from Marc Willson, who serves as the Retail Consultant for the Virginia Small Business Development Center. Nationally regarded as an expert in Small Business Development, Mr. Willson has counselled over 1200 small retailers in best practices, financials and cash flow, marketing, merchandising, and more. He has presented his “Art as Business” workshops across the country and has significant experience working with artists and art organizations, including the acclaimed Torpedo Factory Art Center in Alexandria, VA.

 

Following the Keynote address, attendees will have the opportunity to attend up to 4 break-out/workshop sessions, as well as participate in a roundtable lunch discussion with local artist-entrepreneurs. Break-Out Sessions and Workshops being offered include: “Artist to Entrepreneur: Starting a Business”; “Stop Making Tax Time so Terrible”; “Arts Business Model Canvas”; “Online Marketing Basics”; and “Arts as Business”. Registration opens December 14, 2015. The registration fee is $50 through January 15 2015. The registration fee will increase to $85 after January 15, 2016, so register early! ArtsPartners of Central Illinois Inc. works to promote the arts as a vital component of Central Illinois’ cultural and economic development. In these efforts, the organization has partnered with the Peoria Area Convention and Visitors Bureau and the Peoria Civic Center to create IGNITE Peoria, an annual event that connects local artists to the community. These three organizations are excited to once again be working together, with the addition of the Illinois Small Business Development Center at Bradley University, to follow that success with an event designed to enhance the economic impact of the arts in Peoria and Central Illinois.   These four organizations share the goal of creating a thriving arts community in Central Illinois that has a solid foundation of business strategy.
