The Peoria Art Guild is thrilled to announce it has been awarded an $8,980 grant from the Community Foundation of Central Illinois to launch Art Without Boundaries in June of 2025, an exciting new initiative providing free arts education to youth across Central Illinois.

Rooted in the Wallace Foundation’s Connecting Arts Learning Framework, Art Without Boundaries will offer no cost arts experiences, ensuring that all youth under 18 have access to high-quality, diverse arts education. The program fosters creativity, critical thinking, and mentorship by engaging young artists early and empowering them to inspire the next generation.

“This grant will allow us to offer FREE art classes to ALL youth under the age of 18, removing financial and geographic barriers and ensuring that every young person has the opportunity to create, learn, and grow through art,” said Shannon Cox, Executive Director of the Peoria Art Guild. “We are thankful to the Community Foundation of Central Illinois for their support of this program.”

To further eliminate obstacles to participation, we are also partnering with the Peoria Public Library to hold classes at select library branches, and with CityLink Greater Peoria Mass Transit to provide bus passes for students and parents traveling to our class locations. This removes all barriers for children to create with us.

And there’s more, the Peoria Art Guild is excited to announce an expansion of its classroom space at The Shoppes at Grand Prairie. The new space, which will open on May 29, 2025 at 5:30pm with a celebration and ribbon cutting will accommodate more classes and create more opportunities for students to participate in arts programming. The Guild will still have its space in downtown Peoria for teaching and exhibitions.

MAP (Mentor Art Program) pairs a small group of youth apprentices with professional, established mentor artists who specialize in diverse mediums for intensive periods of hands-on individual and collaborative studio work.
MAP also exposes participants to the business-side of being a professional artist from creation to promotion, culminating with the students acting as curators of their own exhibit, installation, and & reception.
This years students were also given the opportunity to design a Bison for the Peoria County “bisontennial” under the mentorship of Artist Alex Carmona. Stay tuned to see the finished product!
The opening reception for this exhibition will be June 6th, 5-8:00 p.m.

The 6W2P Arts Camp is coming up.

Join us for a summer of creativity! Our Summer Free Kids Art Classes offer children the chance to explore different art forms at three convenient locations across the city. Each week focuses on a new artistic medium, including drawing, painting, 3D art, and collage.

Do you have sketchbooks lying around, but you’re never able to finish them? Blank pages stare back at you and you have no idea what to draw! Look no further, in this class we’ll be showing that blank sketchbook who’s boss! From paint, to charcoal, to scrapbooking, we’ll be working together to turn a 60 page sketchbook into a work of inspiration. This is the perfect opportunity to experiment with new mediums, while fulfilling that impossible goal of filling a whole sketchbook. Ages 18

Learn the basics of watercolor or take your skills to the next level in the 6- week class for both beginners and intermediate watercolor artists. Learn the very basics of how to get pigment on paper, understand how watercolor paint works, explore the different types of paper, brushes, and create at least one painting per class. This 6-week class includes drawing lessons, value sketches, still life paintings, and various studies on how to paint different types of objects.

We will create a mini travel journal that you can carry with you on trips for vacation or even the grocery store!

Harmonize Peoria’s Garage Band Open Stage is back for another 10-week summer run! Every Tuesday, we roll up the garage door, set out our collection of donated instruments, and invite the community to create music together with the help of a different local host band each week.
Here’s how it works:
🎵 The host band kicks things off with a few songs, then opens the stage to anyone who signs up.
🎸 You can play solo, jump in with the host band, or build a band from fellow attendees.
🥁 Total beginner or just curious? Come try out the instruments—even if you’re not ready to play on stage yet.
We provide:
✅ Full back line and all instruments/gear (though you’re welcome to bring your own)
✅ A dedicated sound person
✅ A welcoming, no-pressure space to play, explore, and connect
🎯 Priority stage time is given to artists under 21, but all ages are welcome to join in or cheer from the crowd!
🪑 We’ve got lots of seating and will have chips and soda available for purchase. Feel free to bring your own chairs and snacks. No alcohol, please.

This event is happening largely thanks to the project support we’ll be receiving from Arts Dollars funds, provided by the Illinois Arts Council Agency, ArtsPartners of Central Illinois, and Community Foundation of Central Illinois.

Students will learn how to mold pieces of ceramic clay to design and make both a cute garden gnome. In this fun 1-time class we will create multiple pieces using simple tools, clay and water, then paint the pieces with underglaze to be fired and picked up at a later date. Ages 18

In this intermediate drawing class, we will continue to practice measuring in order to create very accurate drawings, as well as push more of our technical perspective skills with landscapes and architecture. We will also further develop our sense of the figure by doing numerous head studies, all in different positions. This is a six week, two hour class, intended for artists who have a basic understanding of drawing and would like to build their skills even more! Ages 16

This Second Empire-style house was built in 1868 for hardware merchant Moses Pettengill and completely renovated in 1945. It now showcases a fine collection of objects owned by its last owner, Jean Morron—including mid-18th century furnishings, artwork, artifacts and textiles—as well as earlier items belonging to the Pettengill family.

Please note that despite the roadwork on Moss Avenue, Pettengill-Morron House remains open for tours and visits to the gift shop.

Step into a world of imagination and adventure at Library of Legends: A D&D Game Night, hosted at the Dunlap Public Library, 302 S First Street, on Thursday, June 26, 2025, from 5:00 PM to 8:00 PM in the Community Room.

This 18 event invites players to dive into the epic world of Dungeons & Dragons, where storytelling, strategy, and creativity collide. Whether you’re a seasoned adventurer or curious first-timer, you’re welcome at the table!

Spots for the D&D tables are limited, and advance registration is required. A $5 player fee includes all materials, light refreshments and a take-home limited-edition dice guardian with dice, donated by Friends of the Dunlap Public Library. We will mostly be doing still-lifes so we can learn how to render shadows and get various tones out of an object with just graphite. Along the way, we will also cover the basics of the figure. This training will satisfy the annual training requirement for Chicago Employers and includes the two hour Sexual Harassment Prevention Training for supervisors and managers and one hour Bystander Training for all employees, plus a Q & A session at the end.

Outside of Chicago, employers with 1 or more employees in Illinois must provide 1 hour of annual sexual harassment training to their Illinois employees (including full-time, part-time and seasonal.) The Illinois Department of Human Rights and the City of Chicago Commission on Human Relations offer online trainings on their websites. While these trainings meet the minimum requirements, there is no opportunity to ask questions or get advice. You may also hire a consultant, attorney, HR professional, or training consultant to train employees and supervisors.

Based on Giacomo Puccini’s La Boheme, Rent is a rock opera that tells the story of 8 friends’ need for connection in a world that has thrown them away. Set in the East Village of NYC at the height of the AIDS Epidemic, this group of artists and musicians experience desperation, loneliness, loss, lust and love all while coping with survival. Together they discover how to fight for liberation when a win doesn’t seem possible. The soundtrack is heavily influenced by rock music, incorporating elements of pop, show tunes and even tango. This blend reflects the diverse backgrounds and experiences of the characters and is a critical component of the musical’s impact.

This year at Five Points Fridays, we will have a monthly initiative that we will be taking part in. For the month of June, we will be joined by Touch-A-Truck. We will have live music, food trucks, kids activities and more. This FREE event is open to the public and takes place from 6-9 p.m.

What is Five Points Fridays?

Five Points Fridays began during the COVID-19 pandemic as a way to safely bring the community together, offering a space for people to enjoy live music, food trucks and outdoor activities while maintaining social distancing. Over the years, these events have grown into a cherished tradition, fostering a strong sense of community while providing access to music and the arts. With live performances, arts and crafts for kids and a welcoming environment for all ages, attendees have a chance to connect with their neighbors and engage in creative activities. Each month features a new initiative, such as mental health awareness in May, Touch-A-Truck in June and an adoption event with TCAC in July. August will feature a special Bicentennial celebration and car show. These events continue to strengthen local bonds and create lasting memories for the people of Washington.

In this beginner portrait class, you learn the basics of drawing a full head whilst refining your watercolor skill. Throughout the course of six weeks, you will do introductory to advanced facial drawing lessons, and break down how to paint various skin tones and facial features. By the last day of class, you should feel comfortable painting and drawing portraits of many ages, races, and looks. There will be no class on July 4. Ages 16+

This architect-led tour will highlight examples of Peoria’s mid-century architecture, which emphasized optimism, sleek and simple design, and a connection with nature. It will provide exterior perspectives and commentary on a number of significant local modernist buildings.

This tour departs from and returns to the parking lot across from Kelleher’s Irish Pub and Eatery at 619 SW Water Street.

In this workshop, you will learn the basics of relief carving and printing using blocks and relief gouges. Students will see examples of various work from different artists, experiment with carving and inking a block, and create an edition of their own prints. They will also have the chance to use an etching press and work in a print studio. Ages 18

Come and enjoy Soul Situation rocking their first performance at the vineyard! This all-pro pop, rock and soul supergroup loves playing all family-friendly hits with top-level musicianship. The band is composed of great musicians who are also music professors and teach at Bradley University, Illinois State University and Knox College. The band features Todd Kelly (trumpet), Mark DeZwaan (keyboards), Doug Stewart (saxophone), Tom Marko (drums), Chrys Wilson (vocals), Brandon Mooberry (bass), and Scott Anderson (guitar).

Admission is a $5pp band cover, under 12 free. Bring a lawn chair to enjoy lawn seating or call to reserve deck seating for an additional $5 pp fee. You may bring your own foods just no beverages of any kind. Wine tasting and wine, beer, sodas, pizzas, cheese & crackers and chocolates for sale.

Despite his pride and her prejudice—or is it her pride, and his prejudice?—Elizabeth and Darcy can’t seem to avoid each other’s company. Brought together by a series of events beyond their control, both must reconsider their first impressions.

In this workshop, you will learn the basics of relief carving and printing using blocks and relief gouges. Students will see examples of various work from different artists, experiment with carving and inking a block, and create an edition of their own prints. They will also have the chance to use an etching press and work in a print studio. Ages 18

Welcome to the Bob Ross Style Oil Painting Class – Mountains, Trees and Beautiful Sky! painted in the beautiful setting of the vineyard.

In this class, you will learn the techniques of Bob Ross, a famous and beloved painter known for his beautiful landscapes. You’ll have the opportunity to create your own masterpiece, a serene mountain scene, complete with trees, a beautiful sky, and perhaps even a river or waterfall!

No experience is necessary; beginners and seasoned painters alike will benefit from the guided instruction of our skilled teacher. You’ll learn tips and tricks to create realistic textures and shapes for each element of your painting, from the mountains and trees to the flowing water.

Using top-quality oil paints and brushes, you’ll bring to life a peaceful scene that you will be proud to hang on your wall or give as a gift. Our instructor will provide step-by-step guidance, ensuring that you feel comfortable and confident throughout the entire painting process.

In addition to learning Bob Ross’ techniques, this class provides a peaceful and calming atmosphere where you can escape the hustle and bustle of everyday life. Spend a delightful day breathing in fresh air and listening to the soothing sounds of nature as you paint the beauty that surrounds us.

Kaitlyn became a Certified Ross Instructor (CRI) in March of 2023, and her amazing instruction will guide you through this fun learning experience.

Auditions for Guys and Dolls Directed by John Hurney will be held Saturday June 28, at 10:00AM and 1:00 PM and Sunday June 29, at 2:00 PM at Fondulac Park District Administration Building (201 Veterans Drive, East Peoria). Production runs September 5-13.
Please arrive on time with 32 bars of a song that shows your range and personality. Bring sheet music or backing track in correct key. All auditionees should dress appropriately for dance with correct shoes (jazz,ballet or character, if you have them).
