Peoria Players announces auditions for the musical, Memphis, directed by Bryan Blanks. Memphis tells the story of Huey Calhoun, a white radio DJ in 1950s Memphis, who falls in love with Felicia Farrell, a black singer, and champions her music, breaking racial barriers on the radio and beyond. Their love and the power of music clash with the segregation of the time, leading to challenges for their relationship and Felicia’s career. The musical explores the themes of overcoming segregation, the transformative power of music, and the changing mores of 1950s America.
Auditions will be held at Pleasant Valley Intermediate School, 3314 West Richwoods Blvd. on Thursday, June 5 and Friday, June 6 at 6:30 pm.
Please prepare 16-32 bars of music (around a minute). Bring sheet music or instrumental music on a device that will connect to a bluetooth speaker (a speaker will be provided at auditions). You may chose a musical theatre or pop, blues or jazz piece that showcases your voice. Dress comfortably for a movement audition. There are specialty dancing roles available and other roles that require little movement.
