Peoria Historical Society: Programs and Marketing Coordinator

Position Overview
The Peoria Historical Society seeks a dynamic, detail-oriented Program and Marketing Coordinator to join our team. This role is vital to our mission of preserving and sharing the rich history of the Peoria area. The successful candidate will design and manage social media, plan and execute events, produce fundraising material, and engage in community outreach to enhance the visibility and impact of our work.

Key Responsibilities

1. Event Planning and Execution

  • Plan and coordinate a variety of events, including lectures, fundraisers, and tours.
  • Manage event logistics, including venue setup, vendor coordination, and day-of operations.
  • Collaborate with volunteers and staff to ensure events run smoothly.

2. Content Creation and Writing

  • Write and design social media posts to share updates, highlight programs, and engage members.
  • Draft press releases, articles, and marketing materials to promote the PHS mission.
  • Edit and proofread all communications for clarity, accuracy, and tone.

3. Social Media and Website Management

  • Develop and execute a social media strategy to promote PHS events, programs, and initiatives.
  • Create and curate engaging content (text, images, and video) for platforms including Facebook, Instagram, Constant Contact, and others.
  • Monitor engagement, analyze performance metrics, and adjust strategies for maximum impact.
  • Maintain and update the PHS website.

4. Graphic Design

  • Design brochures, posters, postcards, social media posts, etc. for events and marketing.

5. Community Outreach and Engagement

  • Build and maintain relationships with community partners, sponsors, and volunteers.
  • Represent PHS at public events to increase awareness and recruit members.
  • Develop and implement strategies to grow the PHS audience and membership base.

6. Administrative Support

  • Maintain an organized calendar of events and deadlines.
  • Track marketing expenses and event budgets.
  • Provide reports on marketing and event outcomes to leadership.

 

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Marketing, Communications, History, English, or a related field, or equivalent experience.
  • Strong writing, editing, graphic design, and storytelling skills.
  • Proven experience with social media platforms and content creation tools (e.g., Canva, Adobe Creative Suite).
  • Demonstrated success in event planning and coordination.
  • Highly organized with exceptional attention to detail.
  • Self-motivated and able to manage multiple projects with varying deadlines.
  • Passion for history, community engagement, and the non-profit sector.

 

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience with email marketing tools (e.g., MailChimp, Constant Contact).
  • Familiarity with website management.
  • Knowledge of local history and cultural institutions.

 

Position Details

  • Location: Peoria, Illinois
  • Hours: 30 hours/week
  • Compensation: dependent upon experience
