Remember Yesterday A Long Time Ago
“Remember Yesterday A Long Time Ago”
Works by Noah Thomas Miller
“Remember Yesterday, a Long Time Ago is a reminder to take notice of the structures that frame our lives, to look where a wall ends and a presence might begin. This new presence, which we often call “home”, silently witnesses all of our joys and sorrows. Home is the place that each day starts and ends; a haven amidst the anxieties of the world, a stillpoint in the cacophony of life. But one can also start to feel their identity fuse with the walls around them day after day. There’s a familiarity between You and the place around You, that no one else or no other relationship possesses. They house and share all of our memories after all.
So I ask, as a reminder, to think of all that you’ve been through with places that shelter you. Have you ever reached out and touched the door’s handle and thought it felt like shaking someone’s hand? Have you ever written a letter to your own house? You’re already addressing it with numbers and a shared name of the street, why not address it with all of your thoughts and shared feelings of home. Address the importance it has to you.
These pieces are carved & engraved pieces of wood, masked in layers of house paint, and nailed together in a similar fashion as the places that house them. This material and process is done intentionally to connect to the physicality and craftsmanship inherent in the creation of homes.”
