Peoria Reads 2026 Block Party

In celebration of our 25th anniversary of Peoria Reads and our titles, Warrior Girl Unearthed by Angeline Boulley and Berry Song, by Michaela Goade, we invite you to join us at Columbia Park (next to McClure Branch) to explore and learn about Indigenous culture and history. This family-friendly event features guest speakers as well as local artists and creators. We will also have food tastings and field games for everyone. Free and open to all. Speakers include: ** Chef Jessica Walks First (Pamonicutt) of Ketapanen Kitchen, Chicago’s first Native American Pop-Up Kitchen and catering Company. ** Dr. Nataka Moore, Mbwakowen Harambee Collective ** Jay Young, Executive Director, American Indian Center of Chicago ** Brooke Morgan, Curator of Anthropology & NAGPRA contact, Illinois State Museum Research & Collections Center ** Logan Pappenfort, Director of Tribal Relations for the Illinois State Museum. Also former Second Chief for the Peoria Tribe of Indians of Oklahoma who helped coordinate the Peoria Annual Pow-wow from 2015 to 2021.
