“Signs of Resistance: Protest Art in America”
In partnership with The Peoria Riverfront Museum, the Fine Arts Society brings Bonnie Siegler to Peoria to discuss the power of imagery and the role it plays in social history. Drawing on research that informed her 2018 book, Signs of Resistance: A Visual History of Protest in America, Siegler will highlight iconic, smart, angry, clever, and unforgettable images created by citizens unafraid of speaking truth to power.
Bonnie Siegler is the founder and creative director of the award-winning, multi-disciplinary graphic design studio Eight and a Half and the author of three books. Dear Client is a guide for people who work with creatives. Signs of Resistance offers a visual history of protest in America. More recently, Bonnie co-authored The American Way: A True Story of Nazi Escape, Superman and Marilyn Monroe with Helene Stapinski, which traces Siegler’s grandparents’ journey from Nazi Germany to New York. Bonnie taught design in the graduate schools of Yale University and the School of Visual Arts for many years and was voted one of the 50 most influential designers working today by Graphic Design USA.
