Peoria Players Theatre is proud to kick off their 100th season with the popular musical Grease. Performed as our first-ever Summer Youth Theatre in 1997, this 50s musical favorite returns this August as our 22nd annual Youth Theatre production.

The 1978 movie, which starred John Travolta and Olivia Newton John, skyrocketed to fame as one of the most successful movies of all-time. This year marks its 40th anniversary.  Grease is the story of high school kids in the 50s which features a Burger Palace hang out, a drive-in and school dances.  It is about friendships, summer love, making new friends and acceptance.  You will be transformed into the era with poodle skirts, white socks, saddle shoes, leather jackets and slicked back hair.  All of this is played out by the iconic musical score – “Summer Nights,” “You’re the One That I Want,” “Beauty School Dropout,” “We Go Together” and so many more!

Our Youth Theatre cast is made up of students ranging from 14 to 20 years old.  The performers
represent 14 various schools, including high schools, community colleges and universities. They come from 11 surrounding communities to all come together to perform this fun show.

The Peoria Players Summer Youth Theatre originated in 1997 with the intent to encourage the talents of teens, ages 14 to 20, in all areas of the theatre. Past Youth Theatre productions include Little Shop of Horrors, Fame, Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat, Bring It On: The Musical and Footloose to name just a few.

This year’s production of Grease is directed by Mary Ellen Ulrich, who directed the show 10 years ago. Mary Ellen is thrilled to be back in the director’s chair and is anxious to open up Peoria Players 100th season!  The choreography, led by Jennifer Morris, is fresh and fun.  The music is co-directed by Amanda Connon and Kelly Jarosz.  Our adult guest stars include well-known director/actor Bryan Blanks, playing Vince Fontaine, and Leslie Foti, playing the part of the daunting Miss Lynch, the school principal.
