Peoria Players Puts On Their ‘Kinky Boots’

Ladies and gentleman, gender non conformers, and those who have yet to make up their minds, we invite you to experience the regional premiere of Kinky Boots! Highlighting the 101st season at Peoria Players Theatre, the show dates are January 31 and February, 1, 5, 6, 7 and 8 at 7:30 p.m., as well as Sunday, February 2 and 9 at 2:30 p.m.

Kinky Boots is the winner of every major Best Musical award, including the Tony, the Grammy and London’s Olivier Award. Based on true events, this huge-hearted hit tells the story of two people with nothing in common — or so they think!  Charlie Price is a factory owner struggling to save his family business. Lola is a fabulous entertainer with a wildly exciting idea. With a little compassion and a lot of understanding, this unexpected pair learns to embrace their differences and creates a line of sturdy stilettos unlike any the world has ever seen!  But in the end, their most sensational achievement is their friendship.

Featuring 16 original songs by Cyndi Lauper, this joyous production will have the audience dancing and singing in their seats. All the while, driving home lessons of accepting people for who they are and realizing that you can change the world when you change your views.

Director Deric Kimler has loved Kinky Boots since the day he saw the musical. Adding to his directorial list which includes Bare, Rent, Parade and Fun Home, Kimler embraces the lesson Kinky Boots brings out and wants audiences to leave not only entertained but thinking about those who may not be accepted in our society.

Kinky Boots features a great cast with Adam Sitton playing Charlie Price alongside Bryan Blanks who portrays Lola. Both of these talented actors are Peoria-area theater veterans and will take this show to another level. Also in the cast are Roger Roemer playing Mr. Price, Charlie’s father; Breeann Dawson as Lauren; Ed Peck as George the factory manager; Dalton Sander as the tough factory worker Don; as well as Erica O’Neill as Trish. And not to be over shadowed are Lola’s showgirls, The Angels, Clay Frankel, Jack Clifford, Billy Blue, Eric Gore, Matthew Henry and Todd Michael Cook. They all join a fabulous ensemble, led in music by Andrea Molina.

Who can forget the star of the show, the boots! These along with the amazing costumes were procured and made by the talented costume skills of Jill Barr and Darah Hannan.

Also, an important part of pulling this show together is the amazing crew including John Donlan, assistant director and stage manager; Jack Clifford and Christine Paternoga, set designer-extraordinaires; Bill Barr and Bill Kalman, set construction; and choreography by Todd Michael Cook and Sophie Challacombe.
