Beginning August 2021

Peoria Academy, an independent, coeducational, progressive PK-8 school founded in 2000 in Peoria Illinois, seeks a visual arts teacher to begin August 15, 2021.

Peoria Academy has entered into candidacy to become an International Baccalaureate World School, and will be implementing the Primary Years Programme in PK-5 and the Middle Years Programme in grades 6-8. The Visual Arts Teacher will have the opportunity to be involved in developing our approach to curriculum and instruction during an exciting and dynamic time in Peoria Academy’s history, and to bring an entrepreneurial spirit to growing our Arts programs.

Peoria is a vibrant, small city in central Illinois. Located about 2.5 hours from Chicago, Peoria is home to Caterpillar Corporation, the University of Illinois Medical School, and Bradley University. Offering a family friendly lifestyle and low cost of living, Peoria is a great place to raise a family and make a home. Peoria Academy’s students join us from many towns and cities in the Peoria region and represent remarkable domestic and international diversity, with 13 different languages spoken in our students’ homes.

The visual arts teacher works in close collaboration with other faculty and is responsible for delivering a high-quality program of art instruction to students in PK-8th grade. The visual arts teacher collaborates with Peoria Academy’s faculty and staff, ensuring that visual arts are integrated into the curriculum in various ways. In addition to teaching duties, faculty are expected to participate in the life of an independent school, exhibit a growth mindset, actively seek to collaborate, integrate technology into instruction, and serve as a positive ambassador for Peoria Academy and its students. Our visual arts teacher will have the opportunity to build our art program by seeking partnerships with local institutions.
