The holidays are officially upon us and that means spending time with family and friends. Gather your loved ones and join Peoria Players for our annual tradition, Home for the Holidays! Home for the Holidays originated several years ago as a tribute to our beloved town, Peoria, and for those who celebrate the season here with their families.
Never the same show twice, Home for the Holidays is a musical revue of your favorite holiday tunes. This year’s production also incorporates memories of Christmases past and many time-honored traditions. Over the years, it has featured different directors, performers and production staffs. This year’s show is directed by Mary Keltner. Local audiences will remember her work as the co-creator of the Park District’s Return to Hogwarts annual event. Mary also co-directed our smash hit 2014 production of Shrek The Musical. For our 2017 Home for the Holidays, she has assembled not only a fantastic cast of local performers, but specialty acts as well. Along with an abundance of talented singers and dancers, under the music direction of Nichole Fauser and choreographed by Rachel Hayes, it will showcase the Richwoods Madrigals, the Forrest Hill United Methodist Church Handbell Choir, a magic act, a professional hula-hooper, Rockette-style dancers and well-known Elvis impersonators.
Gambit is a multi-award winning magician from Peoria who blends a unique style of magic, movement and mystery into an improvised performance no magician is brave enough to try. With the cuffs rolled up and over a decade of performing all over the USA, Gambit presents his skill at matter manipulation and an ability to defy the laws of physics. Alli-Hoop has performed on a variety of stages throughout the Midwest. She is a dynamic hula-hooper that will wow you with a stage presence that is unmatched elsewhere. She is also a hula-hoop fitness instructor at multiple locations in the central Illinois area. The Forrest Hill United Methodist Church Handbell Choir has been playing for over 20 years. Not only do they play together every month, they have also played at the church service for the Methodist Annual Conference at the Civic Center and for nursing home residents during the holidays.
The Richwoods Madrigals are in their 44th season of spreading holiday cheer. Currently under the direction of Terry Cole, they were founded by Wayne McCumber and were known in their early years for Prime Rib Dinners. Richwoods Madrigals are made up of primarily juniors and seniors who have dedicated six hours a week since this summer to prepare for the 44th incarnation of the Madrigal Feast. The Madrigal Ladies are joining Home for the Holidays to perform “Two French Carols,” “Rise Up Neighbor,” “He is Born” and “A Christmas Wish.”
Our two Elvis impersonators, Roger Burford and Dave Stovall, are excited to join our Home for the Holidays event this year. Roger Burford has been an Elvis impersonator for over 27 years and has performed at Graceland as well as around the Midwest. Dave Stovall has also played at Graceland during Elvis Week for many years and has played with the legendary Stamps Quartet who backed up Elvis in the 70s on stage and on record. Dave has done over 1000 thousand concerts in his 30-year career!
Our show wouldn’t be complete without all your favorite holiday tunes, such as “Winter Wonderland,” “Have Yourself a Merry Little Christmas,” Dance of the Sugar Plum Fairy, and of course, “I’ll Be Home for Christmas.” Mr. and Mrs. Claus will also be in attendance after each show to greet the children!
Home for the Holidays runs for just 2 performances — December 16 at 7:30 pm and December 17 at 2:00 pm. Tickets are $15 for all ages and are available online at peoriaplayers.org or by calling 309-688-4473.
