PEORIA, IL.—On Sunday, July 10, 2022, at 2:30 pm, Judy Rosella Edwards will speak on the topic of the “Women of the Greenhut Memorial.”
The Women’s Relief Corps (WRC)—the Peoria chapter of which was associated with the hall—was created in 1883. The Peoria chapter was very active, and the national WRC convention was held in Peoria several times; planning and fund-raising for these events for veterans and their families often took place at the hall.
A past presenter at the Illinois Historic Preservation Agency’s Annual Conference on Illinois History, Judy Rosella Edwards is a longtime contributor to GenWeekly.com and Central Illinois newspapers. She is author of A More Perfect Service: A History of Music at the First Universalist Church of Peoria, When 29 Reaches 30: The Story of Those Buried in the Typographical Union Section of Springdale Cemetery, and Underground At Springdale Cemetery, Volume I. She is currently participating in digitizing a historical newspaper for the Jasper Douthit Project, with permission to scan editions archived at Harvard University’s Hollis Library; Flora Lamson Hewlett Library in Berkeley, CA; and elsewhere. Currently, she is writing a book about the Illinois River. She holds a master’s degree from Indiana University.
This event is sponsored by the Central Illinois Landmarks Foundation (CILF), an organization helping to save historic buildings and other landmarks in the region. Join us on July 10 to learn more about these women!
