Event Details

Dakota Hoska, Assistant Curator of Native Arts at the Denver Art Museum, will explore new trends in curating Indigenous Arts through an examination of the recent reinstallation of their Indigenous Arts of North America galleries. Focusing on key artworks and the artists who made them and collaborations with community members, Hoska will share how her team worked to dispel preconceived expectations for the creation and display of Native American artworks. She will relate how Indigenous people fit into non-Native institutions and review artists whose work is contributing to broader national and international discussions.

Hoska is an enrolled member of Oglála Lakȟóta Nation, Pine Ridge (Wounded Knee). Previously, she was Curatorial Research Assistant at the Minneapolis Institute of Art. Hoska completed her MA in Art History, focusing on Native American Art History, at the University of St. Thomas. She completed Dakhóta language classes at the University of Minnesota and received her BFA in Drawing and Painting from Minneapolis College of Art and Design.

Sponsored by Richard and Patricia Franzen.
