The Anatomy of Survival

Works by Mariana Russo

“My work explores the relationship between nature and human behavior, using the tree as a metaphor for resilience, interdependence, and transformation. Through pyrography burned directly into wood and layered with vibrant acrylic paint, I create figures that exist between landscape and body, blurring the boundary between the natural world and the self.”

“The Garden of Inspiration”

Works by Anna Shorey

“My paintings are executed in a style akin to contemporary realism, infused with elements of Impressionism. Soft, fluid color transitions and blurred backgrounds—hallmarks of watercolor or pastel techniques characterize my work. These techniques place a strong emphasis on capturing light, volume, and the delicate softness of petals, while simultaneously demanding a high degree of detail and naturalism. Such pieces are ideally suited for interior décor. I enjoy embedding a hidden message within my paintings, for in every culture, the specific type of flower—as well as its quantity and color—has historically carried a distinct and special significance.”

EMILY CRANK

Hello, my name is Emily Crank and I am a student at Bradley University. I am currently working towards the goal of double majoring in Art History and History with a minor in Museum studies and Women and Gender studies. My plan is to pursue local history and Gallery exhibition work with a community focus when I graduate. I love art and working on projects that explore the history of the Peoria area, and I am very excited to be working with Arts Partners towards these goals. I look forward to serving the community and furthering the reach of Arts Partners throughout the summer.
