Sponsored by Maggie and Paul Nelson.
This lecture will introduce David C. Driskell and his significant impact on American art. In addition to his outstanding paintings, prints, and drawings, his legacy as a scholar of American art is unparalleled. His curatorial work, writing, and teaching promoted the inclusion of Black people in the story of America and art.

Juarez Hawkins, a native of Chicago, is a second-generation artist. Her mother, Florence Hawkins, is one of the painters of Chicago’s famous Wall of Respect. Hawkins received her BA from Northwestern University, and her MA in Interdisciplinary Arts from Columbia College.

Hawkins has exhibited throughout Chicago, including Ann Nathan Gallery, Woman Made Gallery, and the Chicago Cultural Center. She is a member of the Sapphire and Crystals art collective.
