Parents are encouraged to stay during the class in our waiting area.

This class is an introduction to using your DSLR in the most creative mode, Manual. You will learn about, and how to control, your aperture and shutter speed, what the ISO is, how to use the exposure meter, depth of field, the basics of composition and lighting, and begin to unravel the mystery of all those lenses. You will participate in a class photo shoot and critique of images, and have a chance to work with constant and flash lighting systems. This course consists of six 2-hour sessions. Conventional DSLRs and mirrorless cameras are encouraged.

This class is an introduction to using your DSLR in the most creative mode, Manual. You will learn about, and how to control, your aperture and shutter speed, what the ISO is, how to use the exposure meter, depth of field, the basics of composition and lighting, and begin to unravel the mystery of all those lenses. You will participate in a class photo shoot and critique of images, and have a chance to work with constant and flash lighting systems. This course consists of six 2-hour sessions. Conventional DSLRs and mirrorless cameras are encouraged.

This lecture will introduce David C. Driskell and his significant impact on American art. In addition to his outstanding paintings, prints, and drawings, his legacy as a scholar of American art is unparalleled. His curatorial work, writing, and teaching promoted the inclusion of Black people in the story of America and art.
Juarez Hawkins, a native of Chicago, is a second-generation artist. Her mother, Florence Hawkins, is one of the painters of Chicago’s famous Wall of Respect. Hawkins received her BA from Northwestern University, and her MA in Interdisciplinary Arts from Columbia College.
Hawkins has exhibited throughout Chicago, including Ann Nathan Gallery, Woman Made Gallery, and the Chicago Cultural Center. She is a member of the Sapphire and Crystals art collective.

Join the free Zoom seminar on February 9, to learn about rights of attribution, issues around the destruction or modification of art, and more with William T. McGrath of Davis McGrath LLC.
About the Speaker:
William T. McGrath, Davis McGrath LLC.
Bill McGrath has practiced intellectual property and business law since 1976. He is nationally recognized for his work in the field of copyright law, though his areas of concentration also extend to trademark and information technology law, as well as publishing law, trade secret law, and software licensing. Bill’s experience includes counseling, litigation, arbitration, and mediation. He has litigated matters at each level of the federal courts, including the U.S. Supreme Court. He has also litigated matters before the Trademark Trial and Appeal Board.
Bill has taught graduate courses in Copyright Law and Copyright Litigation since 1990 at The John Marshall Law School, where he serves as Associate Director of the Center for Intellectual Property Law. He is the author of numerous articles, including more than a dozen articles for the IP Litigator, and has provided feature content for journals including the National Law Journal and Corporate Legal Times (now Inside Counsel). He is author of two chapters on copyright law in the treatise Intellectual Property Law (IICLE 2008). Bill also lectures extensively on copyright law.
Bill is Past President of the Intellectual Property Law Association of Chicago, and has served as Chair of the Patent, Trademark & Copyright Committee of the Chicago Bar Association. He has also served on the Board of Trustees of the Copyright Society of the USA, and is currently a member of the Editorial Board of the Journal of the Copyright Society of the U.S.A. He has been named to the “Illinois Leading Lawyers” network and has been recognized as an “Illinois Super Lawyer” by the publishers of Chicago Magazine.

You will learn about, and how to control, your aperture and shutter speed, what the ISO is, how to use the exposure meter, depth of field, the basics of composition and lighting, and begin to unravel the mystery of all those lenses. You will participate in a class photo shoot and critique of images, and have a chance to work with constant and flash lighting systems. This course consists of six 2-hour sessions. Conventional DSLRs and mirrorless cameras are encouraged.

Learn the basics of drawing and painting from professional author and illustrator, Camron Johnson, who has worked with Marvel, Upper Deck, Warner Bros, and more! Follow along as he works on a traditional work of art from start to finish. Hone in on your skills as Camron displays his workstation on-screen and opens dialogue to discuss tips, techniques, and answer your questions – All while you work on YOUR very own illustration! This 3-week class is for both drawing beginners and more advanced artists looking to learn new techniques.

Students will learn how to mold pieces of ceramic clay to make a variety of pottery sculptures. For three weeks we will create multiple pieces using simple tools, clay and water. Then the final week students will get to paint the pieces with underglaze to be fired and picked up at a later date.

Try your hand at 5 basic Shibori techniques, a modified batik technique, color mixing, dyeing multiple colors, and bringing new life to an old fabric with overdyeing. In this class we’ll be dyeing a variety of rayon and cotton scarves, large cotton fabric squares, and second-hand clothing.
