As the story unfolds, set in 1956, The Susan B. Anthony Society for the Sisters of Gertrude Stein are having their annual quiche breakfast. As the assembled “widows” await the announcement of the society’s prize winning quiche, the atomic bomb sirens sound. Has the Communist threat come to pass? How will the ‘widows’ respond as their idyllic town and lifestyles faces attack?
Winner of the 2012 NYC International Fringe Festival as Best Overall Production, 5 Lesbians Eating a Quiche is a tasty recipe of hysterical laughs, innuendoes, unsuccessful repressions and delicious discoveries.
Directors Sarah & Greg Blume are excited to showcase an all-female cast that in a way, pays homage to the beloved funny ladies of 1950’s, like Lucille Ball, Betty White and Eve Arden. “We hope folks will come out and feel true joy while watching this celebration of sisterhood and survival,” said the Blumes. Further, while the setting may be decades earlier, the subject matter dealing with the complexities of sexual repression and the difficulty of coming out as gay or lesbian still resonates with many today. Continues Sarah Blume, “and fifty plus years later, our LGBTQI community still faces these same complexities when coming out. While this show dishes up high-spirited hilarity, there is a real point to be made; we all need to feel valued in who we are and we all should have the right to love who we want to love. Period.”
5 Lesbians Eating a Quiche features Maureen Lyons as Lulie Stanwyck, Rebekah Dentino as Dale Prist, Autumn Vandeven as Wren Robin, Jordan Zuk as Ginny Cadbury, and Celeste Matheson as Veronica “Vern” Schultz.
