Based in history, crime and passion, Frank Wildhorn and Don Black’s 2009 musical adaptation of the adventures of Bonnie and Clyde is an electrifying tale of love, adventure and crime that will “steal” your heart. This is a story that during the Great Depression captured the attention of the entire country. Peoria Players believes the musical too, will “arrest” the attention of theatregoers. Bonnie and Clyde: The Musical contains a score with infectious songs by the creator of Jekyll and Hyde and The Civil War. Sexy, exciting, and daring, Wildhorn’s score marries gospel, rockabilly, and blues music that complements the action-filled plot (book by Ivan Menchell). Combined they memorialize Bonnie Parker and Clyde Barrow, two small town nobodies in West Texas who became not only two of America’s most infamous outlaws, but also two of America’s most renowned folk heroes…and the Texas law enforcement’s worse nightmare.

When Clyde meets Bonnie, their mutual desire for fame and excitement catapult them on a whirlwind mission to chase their dreams. However, the young lover’s bold and reckless actions turn the thrilling adventure into a downward spiral – constantly putting themselves and their loved ones in danger…and in trouble with the law. Forced to stay on the run, the lovers resort to robbery and well…murder, to survive. As the duo’s fame grows, so does the inevitability of their infamous demise that plays out for all to see.

Director Charles ‘Chas’ Killen and Musical Director Nichole Foster have assembled a fantastic cast and crew. Appearing in the title roles are Peoria native Madison Boedecker (as Bonnie Parker) and from Bloomington, Ramsey Hendricks (as Clyde Barrow). Joining them are Rob King as Clyde’s brother and ‘partner in crime’, Buck Barrow and Kelleen Nitsch as Buck’s wife Blanche. The show also features Bloomington’s Austin Travis as the lovelorn Deputy Ted Hinton and Ed Peck as “The Preacher” and a 24 member ensemble cast. Nyk Sutter-Downs is the choreographer.

Ramsey joins the Bonnie and Clyde cast hot off a 6-month stint with Disney. He was a character performer in the Disney College Program, which later led to full time work with ‘the Mouse’. Ramsey played some memorable characters during his time in the Magic Kingdom: Bert from Mary Poppins, Prince Charming, Goofy, Toy Story’s Woody and Tigger to name a few. He was also a member of the ensembles that performed Fantasmic and Finding Nemo to sold-out crowds. In addition to creating magic as a performer, Ramsey had the opportunity to learn various skills such as stilt walking, juggling and puppetry. We are fortunate to have such talent in our community!
